Privacy

This notice explains what personal data the Professor Brand website collects, why, how long it is kept, who processes it, and your rights. It is written to the standard of the strictest data protection law that may apply to you.

What we collect

• Enquiries. What you type into the contact form: your email address, your name if you give it, your message, and for a naming brief what the business does, who it serves, its sector and markets.
• Newsletter and "Watch this name". Your email address, the tags that say how you signed up (for example the name you are watching), and your confirmation. A "Name my business" brief is forwarded to the site mailbox like any enquiry, and your address joins the newsletter list only if you tick the box asking for the letter.
• Visits, only if you accept analytics. Page addresses, the referring page, screen size and the country, derived by the analytics tool from your connection and not stored as an address. No cookies, no profile across sites, nothing you type.

The site itself stores nothing: the forms forward your message to the site mailbox and your subscription to the newsletter tool, and keep no copy. Your basket lives only in your own browser and is never sent to us (see the cookie page).

Why, and on what basis

• To answer an enquiry: steps taken at your request before a possible sale, and our legitimate interest in replying.
• To send the newsletter or a watch notice: your consent, given with double opt-in. You can withdraw it with one click in any email.
• Analytics: your consent, given in the cookie bar. Without it, the analytics script never loads.
• Security (the form challenge and the bot rules described below): our legitimate interest in keeping the forms and the catalogue free of abuse.

How long it is kept

Enquiries are kept in the site mailbox for [retention period to be confirmed], then deleted. Subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe; an unsubscribed address is kept only as a suppression record so you are not written to again. Analytics records are kept by the analytics tool for [period to be confirmed] in aggregate form.

Who processes it

• Cloudflare: delivers the site, protects it from automated abuse, runs the two form handlers and the Turnstile challenge on the forms.
• The web host that stores the site's files (it receives ordinary server logs).
• The mailbox provider for the site email address, where enquiries arrive.
• Buttondown: the newsletter and watch list.
• Umami: cookieless analytics, only after your consent.
• Spaceship SellerHub: when you buy a name, you deal with the marketplace directly under its own privacy notice; this site passes it nothing about you.

Some of these processors may handle data outside your country. Where they do, they rely on recognised safeguards such as standard contractual clauses. [Details to be confirmed per processor.]

No selling

Your data is never sold, rented or shared for anyone else's marketing.

Your rights

You can ask to see the data held about you, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to its use, and to take a copy with you. You can withdraw consent at any time, which does not affect what was done before. You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority.

Cookies

The site sets one cookie of its own, to remember your cookie choice. The cookie page lists it, and the security cookies Cloudflare may set.
