The story

Say it twice and the joke arrives: pizza, meatza. The second word is the first with its middle scooped out and refilled, which is a fair description of the cooking as well. PizzaMeatza is a name for a kitchen that treats meat as the point of the pizza and does not count the strands.

Pulled beef pizza with red onion and barbecue sauce, one slice lifted with stretching cheese, PizzaMeatza logo in the corner
Pulled beef needs hours of low heat; the slice on the server is where those hours end up.

The signature dish in the concept images is pulled beef, and it is a revealing choice. Pulled beef cannot be hurried. It wants hours of low heat before it falls apart under a fork, then a turn in barbecue sauce, and here it is heaped over melted cheese with red onion and parsley, one slice lifted on a server with the cheese still stretching. Slaw, pickles and a cold glass wait nearby. Nobody would mistake it for a light lunch.

The logo is built on the same appetite. A circle is split by a lightning bolt, with a pepperoni pizza on one side and a seared steak with grill marks on the other, as if the two had collided and decided to stay together. In the wordmark the letters MEAT glow orange between PIZZA and ZA, so the customer reads the promise before the name. Mounted on a brick wall above leather banquettes, as another sketch places it, the mark has the swagger of a good sports-bar sign.

It is a loud name, and it should be. Quiet would be the wrong note for a pizza you need two hands to lift.

Why it works

Rhyming pairs stick in the memory, which is why playgrounds and pop songs are full of them. The second half tells the customer exactly what to expect, so the name works as a menu headline. It suits a kitchen that would rather be known for one generous thing than for twenty modest ones.

Who this suits

  1. A pizzeria whose house special is slow-cooked meat and which wants the name to say so
  2. A barbecue joint adding pizza to the menu without losing its smokehouse character
  3. A late-night delivery brand for customers who order the meat feast every time

Suggested uses

  • a meat-led pizzeria
  • a barbecue and pizza bar
  • a delivery kitchen
  • a frozen loaded-pizza range
  • a pulled-beef pizza van
